The Center’s Strategic Planning

The Center consists of the following departments:

1. Course Management Systems Department

This department is responsible for the electronic systems used at the Applied Science University, which consist of four learning platforms utilized by students and faculty throughout their academic journey. All platforms are linked through a single hub: Hub.asu.edu.jo​ :

  1. – ASU EduGate Platform – Used for asynchronous (non-interactive) learning for all types of courses (e-learning, blended, and face-to-face). It supports non-interactive activities such as downloading course files, assignments, discussion forums, and more.
  2. – My ASU Platform – Used for asynchronous (non-interactive) learning for specific functions such as grades, academic advising, e-registration, field training, and others.
  3. – Microsoft Teams – Used for synchronous (interactive) learning for fully online lectures attended in real-time with the course instructor.
  4. – ASU Online Mobile App – Used for asynchronous (non-interactive) learning on mobile devices.

Under this department fall the roles of Learning Platforms Development Officer, Administrative Officer on Learning Platforms, and Technical Officer on Learning Platforms.

2. Course Design and Digitization Department

The center, in collaboration with various faculties, digitizes courses according to an approved mechanism.

Mechanism for digitizing courses in faculties:

  1. In the first phase, each faculty selects two courses to digitize as an initial stage of the university-wide digitization project.
  2. The selected courses may be of any approved type (e-learning, blended, or face-to-face).
  3. The faculty selects the most suitable instructor(s) for digitization, meeting the following conditions:
    1. Clear and strong voice with proper language.
    2. Completion of e-learning instructions approved by the university and endorsed by His Majesty the King.
    3. Attendance of workshops held by the e-learning center, either in person or via recorded videos provided on the center’s webpage.
    4. Mastery of course presentation standards (sample attached).
    5. Mastery of appropriate digitization types approved at ASU:
      1. Digitization using personal computer and Camtasia following an approved template. The instructor records their voice and video at the start of each lecture. The center staff handles video editing and correction of classroom defects. Video must follow the Video Template provided by the Faculty of Arts.
      2. Digitization using SmartBoard interactive whiteboard and presentation template. Instructor records voice and video; video is edited by the center staff.Video must follow the provided template . click here
      3. Digitization in the Faculty of Arts studio, coordinated with the arts faculty. Studio technician records and edits the lecture according to the approved template.click here
      4. Proficiency in the following tools:
      5. Formal attire for instructors
  4. Instructors update the course plan, reflecting the appropriate digitization type for each course unit.
  5. Faculty requests the IT center to create an empty course template on EduGate and assign it to the instructor.
  6. Instructors digitize the course introduction (preferably in the Arts Studio).
  7. Studio technician splits and edits the introduction into cohesive videos, max 15 minutes each.
  8. Studio technician sends finalized videos to the faculty dean.
  9.  Instructors update the template with all explanations (introduction + course units + exercises after each unit + assignments).
  10.  Instructors develop exercises for each unit and add them to EduGate.
  11. Repeat steps 6–10 for all course units using other digitization types; center staff edits and delivers videos to the faculty dean.

The E-Learning Center provides training for faculty staff in:

  1.  Effective use of SmartBoard.
  2.  Use of camera for recording instructors explaining on the SmartBoard.
  3.  Updating course explanations on the EduGate template.
  4. Studio training in the Faculty of Arts for recording lectures.

 Under this department fall the roles of Digital Content Designer, Graphic Designer, and Visual Officer.

3. Computerized Examinations Department

The center is responsible for training faculty members on automating exams through the approved platform and provides instructional videos. Additionally, it secures lab reservations for computerized exams under the university’s Central Labs and Examinations Committee.
